Is it best to cleanse skin first before using a facial steamer or sauna ?

Yes, because one of the purposes is to get the gunk out of your pores. If you have makeup on still, it kinda defeats the purpose. If you don't have any on, you do not need to wash your face first. I use mine for 10 minutes before I shower (your hair will get yucky when you use it) and then I use a mask called Burt's Bees pore refining mask with french clay to tighten all my pores all back up. It takes only 5 minutes to dry and rinses off easily. I have used other clay masks and ended up have to work to get them off. It only adds 15 minutes to you routine in the am and you hit the door feeling great and looking great! I work 2 jobs so I have to have easy routines. This is easy with long-lasting results!! Lucille Ball used one her whole life and made sure her daughter used one. She was a comedian, but she had the greatest, perfect skin on the screen!!!Is it best to cleanse skin first before using a facial steamer or sauna ?
Use a soap free cleanser first to remover make up. After the sauna you could use a white clay based mask to soak up all the gunk before your pores close. then use a face oil or moisturiser and do a bit of a face massage to improve tone.

DO NOT exfoliate for a few days afterwards or it could make your skin sore and inflamed. Is it best to cleanse skin first before using a facial steamer or sauna ?
yes , sure, it is the best way to use.
I would . Once you apply steam it opens up the pores. That is why people shower before the sauna.
before and after
no, just take a shower

the best cleansing happens IN the sauna

al the pores open and all the pus comes out, from the inside
i am a beaty therapist this is how ya can keep ya skin healthy. do it once a week. cleanse, tone, cleanse again, exfoliate, use steam or hot towel, apply a face mask and leave for about 15 mins, wash off and then finish with moisturiser. x x
Yes definitely cleanse first. Wipe with damp, coolish cotton wool afterwards, then splash with ice cold water.

Wait half / an hour or so and then apply a light moisturiser to replenish the fluids lost.

Enjoy!! :-)
I have a sauna in my house and I use it every single morning before I go to school. Let me tell you, it completely wakes up your skin and makes you look great (even on a poor night's sleep!) This is how you should take a sauna:

1. Take a quick shower making sure to remove all of your makeup and wash your body well (especially underarms because bacteria reproduces very fast in hot enviorment and thus you will be filled with bacteria if you don't wash yourself well)

2. Dry yourself very well (if you are wet, you won't last as long into the sauna and you'll just get too hot)

3. Bring a really cold waterbottle with you into the sauna (don't worry, this way you will sweat more ';crap'; out and be able to stay in there longer)

4. Stay in the sauna bout 15 minutes at a time (unless you have been taking them daily for 20 years) and work your way up from there.

5. After you take the sauna, get out, take a nice luxurious shower and wash yourself very well and as well as your face.

6. Right now is the best time to do mask on your face, back, chest, or wherever! Leave it on for about 20 minutes and remove! You don't need to cleanse again after the mask!

7. You actually can exfoliate if you don't have sensitive skin right after the sauna. It won't make irritate your skin at all (trust me, I have faired skin and I love to exfoliate right after a sauna so that all the dead skin cells are removed WAY easier than if I hadn't taken one.) Also, you can shave in the sauna because you will get a super close shave!
